In a Hurry? Here's Our Top Pick

JOROTO Belt Drive Indoor Cycling Bike with Magnetic Resistance Exercise Bikes Stationary Bike

If you need a high-quality magnetic spin bike that does everything you want to do, smoothly with no fuss then you can't go wrong with the JOROTO Belt Drive Indoor Cycling Bike.

This bike comes with a well built, fully adjustable frame that can hold up to 285lbs. The bike comes with a 1-year warranty from JOROTO on ALL its parts (yes you read that right, all parts). Its flywheel is a solid 35lbs - this is good for beginners, but you will still appreciate its weight after a few months of use.

The bike is equipped with a large tablet stand and a bottle/phone holder that is well placed to avoid any possible interaction with the flywheel. It is also equipped with an emergency brake.

The bike comes with a tracking screen that tracks the 5 key stats worth tracking (calories burnt, current speed, distance traveled, length of session, and heartbeat). This is a small screen, however.

We love this bike because it is a bike designed to be good to cycle on. It doesn't get caught up in trying to offer things you don't need. It provides you with a comfortable, safe ride and is built to last.

Top 5 Best Magnetic Spin Bikes

OUR TOP PICK

JOROTO Belt Drive Indoor Cycling Bike with Magnetic Resistance Exercise Bikes Stationary Bike

Summary

Our top pick is JOROTO's Belt Drive Indoor Cycling Bike. It's made its way to the top of our list because it does everything a magnetic spin bike should, and it does it really well. There are no ineffective bells and whistles to get in between you and the road (well, between you and the home gym).

Let's start with the bike itself. The can hold up to 285lbs, and has a reinforced 50mm frame tube. The frame is well balanced, and comes with customizable stabilization points on its base, to allow use on most surfaces. Its hefty 35lbs flywheel also means that once you're on this bike, it's going nowhere, you don't have to worry about it wobbling or sliding around.

Speaking of the 35lbs flywheel - we think this is the perfect wheel weight for all but the top most cyclists (who may be looking for a 45lbs+ flywheel). We recommend this weight due to the fact that, while it may initially be challenging for beginners, it's not a weight that you will outgrow quickly and need to replace within weeks.

The bike is fully customizable. It has an easy to reach knob to adjust resistance levels. Its handlebars are adjustable in 4 different ways, as is its seat. The pedals and feet straps are also adjustable. It has a stabilized tablet stand at the front of the bike. There is also a phone and water bottle storage area - that is accessible without having to get near the flywheel.

Reviewers rave about how quiet the flywheel is during use. This is one of the benefits of using a mechanical spin bike as there is no physical friction. However, this machine is quiet for a mechanical bike.

Another highlight of this bike is that its digital tracker is small, but easy to use. There is a small digital tracker at the base of the handlebars that can be easily cycled between 5 tracking settings - calories burnt, current speed, heart rate, length of session and distance travelled.

This is a very small screen that isn't particularly glamorous, however it does its job well and doesn't get in the way of you working out. If you want a more comprehensive system then you may find a different bike could provide this. However we feel that if you want a bike that is safe, challenges you, and is reliable - then you can't do much better than the JOROTO.

Cyclace Indoor Exercise Bike Stationary Cycling Bike with Ipad Holder for Home Workout

Summary

Our number two magnetic spin bike is the Cyclace Exercise Bike from Cyclace. This is a sturdy bike that can hold up to 330lbs of weight. It comes with 4 solid support points on its base.

This bike has a thick frame that allows it to remain steady during rides. As we said it can hold 330lbs, which is more weight than any of the other bikes on this list. It comes with a 4 way adjustable seat, and a set of padded handlebars that can be adjusted in two different ways. The four stabilization points on the base of the bike will allow you to cycle securely, although we recommend placing a barrier between it and the floor.

Just like the JOROTO, the Cyclace comes with a really nicely weighted flywheel. It is 1lb heavier than the JOROTO, but it again fits into a really sweet zone of difficulty that's great for most skill levels.

There is a tablet and phone stand that sits just below the tracking screen. The placement allows you to utilize both at the same time. The water bottle storage is in a separate place, nearer the flywheel. We don't love the position of these storage sections as much as with the JOROTO, but they are still all pragmatic, and won't cause you any difficulty while riding.

Like the JOROTO the screen on this bike is very small and basic. But it does do everything you would want it to do. We love that it sits above the tablet storing shelf so everything you need during the ride is in one place.

Pros

  • Can hold 330lbs
  • Wheel size great for all skill levels - 36lbs
  • 1 year warranty on parts
  • 6 statistics tracked

Cons

  • Small tracking screen
  • Only two adjustment options for handlebars

However, if this is something you can ignore for a lower price then you'll definitely find this bike worth it.

This machine also comes with a heavier flyweight than our top two - weighing in at 40lbs. Some beginners may find this too heavy, but more experienced riders will appreciate the added resistance.

Best Magnetic Spin Bikes - Buying Guide

With so many different features offered by magnetic spin bikes, it's hard to know what is essential and what is just for show. There's no point in buying a bike that comes with thirteen different seat covers if it doesn't have an emergency brake...

This is your buyer's guide, it's going to talk you through everything you need to know before purchasing your first magnetic spin bike.

Emergency Brake

Even though your spin bike doesn't physically travel it is essential to buy a bike that comes with an emergency brake. There may be times where you feel out of control and you need help stopping the machine, here you can pull the emergency brake and take time to regain control.

The most important feature of the emergency brake is that it allows you to stop instantly if you have injured yourself. If the worst happens and you pull a muscle or snap a tendon whilst using your spin bike you will need to be able to stop instantly to prevent any further damage.

Ability to Adjust

In our opinion, the ability to adjust the heights of your seat and handlebars isn't a luxury, but an essential safety feature.

Having handlebars that are too low can strain your lower back. Having your seat at the wrong height can strain your legs and can lead to injury.

Flywheel Weight

The higher the weight of your flywheel, the higher the resistance of the bike will be. For beginners, it is important to look for a flywheel with a lighter weight to avoid overexerting yourself. 13-35KG is a good weight for beginners.

More experienced Spinners might want to look for heavier flywheels to up the intensity of their workout.

Tracked Categories

One of the great benefits of cycling indoors is that you can accurately track a whole load of different fitness metrics. This is a great way to make sure you're getting the most out of your workouts.

A good bike will allow you to track your heart rate, speed, distance traveled and calories burnt. If a bike doesn't have the features to track these we would think twice about buying it.

Maximum Weight

We recommend checking that you do not exceed the maximum weight limit of your spin bike as you do not want to damage yourself or the bike during use.

Frequently Asked Questions

New to the world of magnetic spin bikes, don't worry, we've put together this FAQ section which will help you get started.

What is a Magnetic Spin Bike?

A magnetic spin bike is an indoor cycling machine that uses magnetic pulls to create resistance during workouts.

A pair of magnets sit either side of the flywheel, and when the rider requires more resistance they can push these magnets closer together - using a mechanical crank or an electric touch screen.

As there is no physical friction, these are the quietest types of spin bikes you can purchase, and unlike friction-based spin bikes, there is no wearing down of or need to replace the resistance pads.

What are the benefits of spin cycling?

Spinning is one of the world's favorite forms of exercise for a reason - it has so many benefits, and it's so fun you don't feel like you're 'working out'. Here are some of our favorite benefits that come with regular spinning:

High-Calorie Burner -  As we mentioned spinning is an incredibly fun form of exercise, but even better it is an incredibly efficient way to workout. The average hour of spinning burns 468-625 calories.

Build Lower Body Muscle - Spinning is great for the lower body, particularly because it activates all the muscles in your legs. So you are able to tone up evenly.

Build Core and Lower Back Muscle - Due to our sedentary lifestyle, lots of us suffer from weak cores and lower back muscles. This can cause long term problems. Spinning can help with this. While it probably won't give you a six pack, this form of exercise will help you gently buildup these important muscles.

Increase your cardiovascular fitness - Spinning is a stamina based exercise, and these types of exercises can work wonders for your cardiovascular system. It can help with weight loss and aid in building a stronger heart. Spinning can also increase your lung capacity.

What are the benefits of cycling from home?

Cycling from home can be a huge money saver. The average spin class costs $15-25, if you cycle the recommended 4 times a week, you'll have made your money back very quickly.

Cycling from home gives you complete flexibility of when you work out and for how long. If you have a packed timetable, you can save a lot of time by not having to travel to the gym for each class. Your home gym will always be open, so if you need to cycle at 5am before you go to work - you can.

If you're someone who finds the gym intimidating cycling from home is a great option, as there is no one there to judge or watch you as you workout (except your cat…). If you're missing group classes there are hundreds of free spin workout videos on Youtube and even paid workout programs designed by PTs.

The one downside of cycling from home is that group spin classes can be a great source of motivation. Firstly, you don't have to plan your workout yourself, you just have to turn up with your towel and water bottle. Secondly, many people find working out in a group environment helps them to push themselves further than they would if they were on their own.
